Khat and Calligraphy Workshop is a workshop where students are exposed to the Islamic arts and culture. The idea of this programme is mainly to inculcate students’ interest towards Islamic khat and calligraphy writing especially the younger generation. Even though some residents had knowledge about khat and calligraphy, it is important to raise awareness in knowing and preserving the skills of Islamic arts and culture. This program is conducted by Mahallah Ruqayyah Committee Representative and will be held on 24th – 30th March 2021.
This workshop was successful managed to achieve the targeted objectives. The committee completed the task on time according to the master plan that has been planned. The number of participants is 74 and this is very surprising because it exceeds the expectations of the organizers. In addition, participation is very encouraging because students abroad also want to participate but it is quite difficult because the speaker talk in Malay language. After all, the feedbacks that we obtained from the students were good. They claimed that they have learned a lot of new things such as the used Microsoft excel to crate Khat Khufi.
Alhamdulillah, this programme ran smoothly without any major shortcomings and it does achieve its targeted objectives as outlined. Although some problems happened, it was still under control and can occur. Besides, this programme provides a great opportunity for IIUM Students to know more about the culture of khat. Thus, we are able to apply the knowledge that we got from this programme in our next programme. Finally, we would like to address our appreciation to the organizing committees from Mahallah Representative Committee of Mahallah Ruqayyah (Cultural and Arts Bureau 20/21) who had contributed directly or indirectly in this programme. Hopefully, this program will bring benefits to the IIUM students and society.
